Blackened Steel

Blackened Steel finish by Lamberti Design has been developed to give a more “organic” black coloration to steel instead of using the usual painting options. It has slight color variations that can range from blue to red up to gray, thus giving more character to a traditionally silver color metal. Carbon steel, commonly known as “Steel”, is an iron-carbon alloy, where the carbon content must not exceed 2%. Steel shows an opaque appearance and is susceptible to corrosion, therefore mechanical and chemical cleaning operations are necessary and preliminary steps that can significantly influence the final surface quality. In addition, the preparation itself can speed up and “standardize” the quality of the final products. The blackening process developed by Lamberti Design involves a chemical surface reaction. At the end, a protective clear coat is applied. A layer of wax can be applied according to customer’s request; it’s make the surface pleasent to the touch and protects it from further oxidation. This finish is only for indoor applications. If applied outdoor the exposure to the atmospheric agents could cause chromatic variations and may produce some rust. We discourage the use of this finish in humid environments such as bathrooms, showers, and baseboards; its improper use could cause the rapid production of rust. The environmental conditions, the geometry and the shape of the products, combined with the artisanal processes, make the final pieces unique; in fact, any chromatic variations on the final objects compared to photos and samples received, are intrinsic characteristics of the process and not manufacturing defects.

Care and cleaning instructions of metals
Liquids can stain any metal surfaces, therefore we recommend cleaning with a soft slightly damp cloth with neutral soapsuds, and then following using a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive materials, aggressive detergents, acetone, solvents and alcohol to clean metal surfaces.
