Industrial Steel

Industrial Steel

The Industrial Steel finish by Lamberti Design was developed to offer a finish solution with an “Industrial” appeal; that meaning “minimal” with simple, clean and essential lines. This trend started with the furnishing used in factories, lofts and other essentials working spaces. Nowadays architects and designers look for more natural and raw materials choosing the Industrial Steel for their “organic” projects like bakeries, breweries and shops. The manufacturing of the Industrial Steel finish starts from carbon steel, simply known as “iron calamine”; it is an iron-carbon alloy, where the carbon content must not exceed 2%. Calamine is the layer of mixed iron oxides that form on the surface of steel sheets during the hot metallurgical processes. On these sheets the calamine shows wide veins with colors ranging from black to bluish; this effect is noticeable only for large sheets, while for samples of small sizes is hardly visible. When producing a furniture piece the iron is cut and then welded. While grinding the welding seams the calamine is partially removed thus exposing the bare metal  and giving that “ Industrial” feel to the object produced. At the end, a protective clear coat is applied.  This finish is for indoor applications. If applied outdoor the exposure to the atmospheric agents could cause chromatic variations and may produce some rust. The environmental conditions, the geometry and the shape of the products, combined with the artisanal processes, make the final pieces unique; in fact, any chromatic variations on the final objects compared to photos and samples received, are intrinsic characteristics of the process and not manufacturing defects. Care and cleaning instructions of metals Liquids can stain any metal surfaces, therefore we recommend cleaning with a soft slightly damp cloth with neutral soapsuds, and then following using a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive materials, aggressive detergents, acetone, solvents and alcohol to clean metal surfaces.
