In the outdoor furniture, street furniture, and outdoor furnishings in CorTen steel, Lamberti Design produced and installed the waste bins and information kiosks in the downtown area of the Municipality of Cava De’Tirreni. These elements of urban furniture were designed by the Architect Silvia Macchioni from Modena, the winner of the competition of ideas held and sponsored by the Municipality of Cava De ‘Tirreni in 2013. The bins, including ashtrays, resemble the shopping bag used in the CCN “Centro Commerciale Naturale”, the Shopping Center in the historic downtown of Cava De’Tirreni. The wide base gives stability to the bin, while the slightly bent mouthpiece allows the insertion of waste produced by a walking pedestrian and prevents bulky bags being thrown in them. Made entirely of CorTen sheets, they have a flip-up door and a custom metal bag holder. CNC cut with waterjet technology, the basket was then welded, cleaned and allowed to oxidize for a few weeks before installation. The architect came up with the new design of the informational kiosks by thinking of the delicate movement of sheets spread out to dry (referring to the Borgo Scacciaventi historical center of the city). Installed on a concrete plinth, the totems have a CorTen ventilated structure with LED monitors suitable for outdoor environments. Lamberti Design engineered, produced and installed the baskets and informational kiosks. Once production was completed the CorTen pieces were left to oxidize for a couple of weeks. This allowed the natural oxidation of the metal to mature. During this stage most of the run-off and rusting occurred. When it reached the dark brown shade, the pieces were installed and finished off with wax or resin.
